For four decades, Joseph M. Cobert, A Professional Corporation has focused on real property law matters, both transactional and litigation. The firm regularly represents brokers and other real estate professionals, developers, lenders, borrowers, investors, landlords, tenants, and entrepreneurs needing sound, experienced, aggressive real estate transaction and litigation advice. The firm has established relationships with top quality attorneys in other disciplines so as to be able to consult with them on, and refer out to them, issues outside of the real estate arena. Similarly, the firm has amassed a group of experts useful for solving problems and providing testimony on brokerage, construction, tax, accounting, economics, title, financing and other issues which impact real estate. The firm's principal, Joe Cobert -- who received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law (Order of the Coif) and his B.A. from Yale University (with Honors) -- has extensive teaching and speaking experience. He has taught the Real Estate Finance course at UCLA Extension for the past 32 years, as well as having been a speaker or guest lecturer on real estate law topics at many other classes, seminars, bar association and real estate broker meetings and conferences. Additionally, Joe has written articles for various publications including law reviews, bar journals and networking and trade organizations. Joe is licensed to practice before all State and Federal courts in California. He has also been licensed as a real estate broker in California since 1979. For 25 years, Joe was on the board of directors (three times president) of an apartment owners' association and its political action committee. In these capacities, he developed relationships with local and state politicians (traveling to locations from Sacramento to San Diego to share ideas and communicate the perspective of the association's members as to legislation). He has been commended for his work in this regard by the City of Los Angeles, the County of Los Angeles and the California governor's office. Joe has a substantial network of contacts developed over his lengthy legal career. He has been a long-time member of several groups of trusted advisors. Joe also is active in and supports many charities. He served for more than two decades on the board of directors of the Guardians, which supports the Jewish Homes for the Aging. He has been an advisor to charities helping the homeless in Los Angeles. Furthermore, Joe has been a member of several organizations which support the arts (including, among others, the Fellows of Contemporary Art, LACMA's East Asian Art Council and a number of local theatre groups). |
